Every Columbus Day weekend, Panama City Beach hands the town over to pirates. The Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest is a free, three-day festival with beach invasions, parades, live music, vendors, and a Saturday-night fireworks show over the Gulf. In 2026 it runs October 9 to 11, right in the sweet spot of fall shoulder season, when the water’s still warm and the summer crowds are long gone.

When and where

The 2026 festival is Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, centered on Pier Park and Aaron Bessant Park with events spilling onto the beach. It’s free to attend. Most of the marquee moments, the pirate invasion, the parades, and the fireworks, happen Saturday.

What to expect

Costumed pirate crews and a Renaissance-fair layer, a kids’ parade and a main parade, a pirate king and queen, live music, food and craft vendors, and a fireworks finale over the water. It’s genuinely kid-friendly, which is part of why families build a fall-break trip around it. Bring a costume if you’re so inclined; plenty of people do.

Why it’s the perfect fall-trip anchor

October in Panama City Beach is the quiet secret of the year. The Gulf holds its warmth into the fall, the beaches are wide open after Labor Day, and shoulder-season rates are a fraction of July. A festival weekend gives you a reason to come, and the rest of the trip is the empty-beach, warm-water version of PCB that regulars come back for.
