Date Night Restaurants Near Panama City Beach: Our Five Picks
When guests ask us where to go for a real dinner, the answer is short. Here are the five places we send couples for date night.
Capt. Anderson’s
The ultimate classy pick. Old-school Grand Lagoon institution since 1967. Get a picture under the oak light canopy out front, Florida Pro Lighting (our other business) hung and maintains it. Marina view, multi-generation hospitality, seafood platter. Reservations strongly recommended in season. About 25 minutes east of Sundial.
McGuire’s Irish Pub
Best steaks around. The shepherd’s pie is the best you’ve ever had. Live music nightly, good for the whole family, portions are huge, awesome Irish pub feel. McGuire’s is over in Destin and worth the drive. Great for an anniversary where you want the comfort of an Irish pub instead of a coastal seafood place.
Idyll Hound Proper
Our favorite lunch or dinner spot. Great food, usually not too busy. The grassy courtyard out front is where you sit if there’s any wait. Part of the 30Avenue district in Inlet Beach, twelve to fifteen minutes west of Sundial. The honest “dressed-up dinner without making it a whole production” pick.
Amici 30A or Amigos 30A
Right next door to each other in 30Avenue, also Inlet Beach. Amici is Italian, Amigos is Mexican. Take your pick. Excellent food at both. Same grassy courtyard if you have to wait. Easy choice when the night calls for great Italian or great Mexican and you do not want to think too hard.
Schooners
The sunset date night. Right on the Gulf, casual energy, beach club feel. Long waits in season but grab a drink and walk the beach while you wait. Sunset over the Gulf with a drink in hand is hard to beat. Not white tablecloth, but romantic in the way that matters.
How to plan it
For a one-week stay, the framework we suggest:
- One classy night: Capt. Anderson’s
- One sunset night: Schooner’s
- One easy night out: Idyll Hound Proper, Amici, or Amigos
- One drive-out occasion: McGuire’s in Destin
That’s four real dinners across a week, with the option to cook in the suite the other nights.
Reservation timing
PCB is busier than people expect in summer. Restaurants that take walk-ins in October will turn you away in July. Use Open Table or call. Plan ahead, especially Thursday through Sunday. Schooner’s and Capt. Anderson’s both run long waits in season.
On the drive back
The drive home from a 30A or Destin dinner is about 25 minutes to Sundial Suites if you’re pacing the wine. If you’re not, both ride-share apps work in the area, though pickup times can stretch to 20 minutes or more on summer Saturdays. Plan ahead.
